VAN NUYS — An argument escalated into gunfire that killed a 21-year-old man at a Van Nuys strip mall Monday night, police said Tuesday.
Oscar Alvarado was with companions at the shopping center in the 13300 block of Victory Boulevard about 9 p.m. when he was approached by a group of unidentified people, Los Angeles Police Det. Peggy Moseley said.
After an argument, Alvarado was shot, Moseley said. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the detective said.
Police have not recovered the weapon used and have no one in custody. Witnesses said they believed the killing was gang-related.
