The Los Angeles Police Department and the City Council are asking the public to help find the people responsible for a double murder that occurred a year ago in Boyle Heights.
During a news conference at the Hollenbeck station, detectives announced Tuesday that the City Council has extended a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killers of Caroline Lopez and Daniel Lara at 3018 E. 6th St. on Dec. 15, 1995.
Lopez, 20, a single mother of a 3-year-old child, was arriving home from work when she was struck by a bullet fired from across the street. Police say the shots were all intended for Lara, 18, who was standing on the sidewalk.
Police believe that the shots were fired by a man and woman who were hiding behind a bush. According to police, Lara was a gang member who had moved into an area frequented by a rival gang.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Det. Ben Lovato at (213) 526-3002.
