35 Party-Goers Hurt When Balcony Falls

From Times Wire Reports

A wooden balcony collapsed during a New Year’s Eve party in Perth, injuring 35 people, 13 of them seriously, police said. About 40 people plunged 15 feet to the ground when the second-floor balcony of an apartment gave way. The victims, ages 18 to 25, suffered head and spinal injuries, broken bones and lacerations. Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Verkerk said it was not known if the weight of the 40 people led to the collapse.
