Yeltsin Leaves Hospital, Will Rest at Home

Associated Press

President Boris N. Yeltsin was released from a Kremlin hospital Monday to continue recuperating from double pneumonia at his country home outside the capital.

Presidential spokesman Sergei V. Yastrzhembsky did not say when the 65-year-old Russian leader might return to full-time work. He said Yeltsin’s recovery will be gradual.

Yeltsin, who left the Central Clinical Hospital in the afternoon, had been back at work only two weeks before being hospitalized Jan. 8. Heart trouble had sidelined him for most of the previous six months.

The Kremlin says Yeltsin’s pneumonia is unrelated to his heart trouble or his quintuple bypass operation on Nov. 5. Doctors had previously said Yeltsin would be hospitalized until he fully recovers.
