While I do not take issue with any government investigating the Church of Scientology for tax evasion, cult-like practices or other possible misdeeds, I am very troubled by the German government’s open discrimination against individual Scientologists (Feb. 6). Job discrimination, denying bank loans and admission to day-care centers, not delivering mail to members and spying on church members smack of the Nazi tactics against the Jews before the start of the Holocaust.
I personally find Scientology to border on the bizarre, but I defend the right of its members to practice their beliefs without sanction by the government or industry. We, as a country, need to help them protect their human rights here and abroad.
