My Favorite Weekend

Friday night: The ideal is a movie. After being cooped up in an office all day I like to get out and see someone else’s art form.
Saturday morning: I’ll cycle from my home in Brentwood to the ocean. I have lunch at the Kings Head British Pub in Santa Monica. Fish and chips and a pint of beer. You’ve got to have it at the right time of day, when the oil is fresh. The Third Street Promenade is a good place to see life--street musicians and tea rooms everywhere.
Saturday night: Le Colonial on Beverly Boulevard is very trendy and the French-Vietnamese food is excellent, although you can’t get a table for a week and a half. A few blocks down on Robertson, there’s a little bakery with very fresh bread, the Normandie Bakery, owned by a French lady.
Sunday morning: I love breakfast at the Biltmore downtown. And it’s really reasonable for about 12 bucks. I’m a big fan of Olvera Street too.
Sunday night: San Genaro in Brentwood is a definite go. It’s a modest affair and the food is fresh. It’s fine for you and the wife, or you and the wife and the kids.
