Shooting for Two
Four Valley-area teams open California Interscholastic Federation Southern Regional tournament play tonight, needing three victories to advance to the state finals March 21 and 22. Top-ranked Harvard-Westlake seeks its second straight boys Division III title. The Wolverines (31-1) play host to San Diego St. Augustine (21-10) at 7:30.
Bit of History
The Bell-Jeff girls team is the only Southern Section champion in the 52-year history of the school. . . . The Guards (29-1) play host to San Diego Coronado (22-4) at 7:30. Bell-Jeff is paced by Jaclyn Johnson, who averages 22 points and 14.7 rebounds.
Doing Just Fine
Alemany was supposed to falter without Carly Funicello, who went on to start for UCLA. The Indians didn’t, advancing to their fifth section final in six years. . . . Alemany (23-5) plays at Oakhurst Yosemite (19-9) at 7.
