In recognition of National Astronomy Day, the Ventura County Astronomical Society will hold a celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sycamore Plaza parking lot near Sycamore Drive and Cochran Street in Simi Valley.
The event will give participants the opportunity to view the sun through telescopes, obtain information on the Hubble Space Telescope and Hale-Bopp comet, win door prizes and pick up tips on how to build or buy a telescope.
Following the stellar celebration, there will be a “star party” from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Moorpark College Observatory, 7075 Campus Road.
Participants will be able to view the heavens through a number of telescopes, including the college’s 14-inch telescope.
