Oxnard police arrested a man on suspicion of kidnapping his 21-month-old daughter from his former girlfriend, authorities said Thursday.
Edgar Tapia, 23, was arrested Wednesday night, about 5 1/2 hours after the girl was taken away in a car, an Oxnard police spokesman said.
Tapia allegedly went to the home of the girl’s mother in the 1600 block of Morris Street about 4 p.m. Wednesday and grabbed the girl. The woman jumped into Tapia’s car as he tried to drive away, the spokesman said.
Tapia let the woman out of the car two hours later in Port Hueneme but kept the girl, officials said.
The driver was pulled over about 9:45 p.m. on West 5th Street, and the girl was found safe in the car, officials said.
Tapia was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping and child abduction.
