‘San Francisco’ Scorer
I read Daniel Cariaga’s review of “The Emigre Era” with great interest (“The Emigre Era: A Fascinating Tale in Music,” April 8). I have one correction. He stated that Walter Jurmann wrote the score to the film “San Francisco.” My father, Herbert Stothart, wrote the score. Two of the three original songs written for the film (“Happy New Year” and “San Francisco”) were written by Bronislau Kaper and Walter Jurmann, his frequent collaborator, with lyrics by Gus Kahn. The third song (“Would You”) was written by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed.
