Burbank Nets Victory With Tie

Burbank High’s No. 1 doubles team of Scott Anderson and Anthony Knight swept their three sets to lead the Bulldogs to an upset of Brentwood in a nonleague boys’ tennis match Friday at Rancho Park in West L.A.
The Bulldogs and the Eagles tied, 9-9, in sets, but Burbank won a tiebreaker by winning more games, 73-66, against the three-time defending Southern Section Division III champion.
Burbank is 6-3. Anderson and Knight, both seniors, have been selected to play doubles April 25-28 in the Ojai tournament.
In other boys’ tennis matches:
Campbell Hall 14, Crossroads 4--No. 1 singles player Adam Zunder won three sets by 6-0 scores and James Chun and Josh Glass swept at No. 1 doubles to improve their record to 35-1 in a Delphic League match at Lincoln Park in Santa Monica. The Vikings (12-0, 3-0) are ranked No. 3 in Division IV.
Simi Valley 14, Royal 4--Carlos Cruz swept his three singles matches and Simi Valley’s No. 1 doubles team of Keith Rekhlau and Wildon Wu won their three matches to lead the Pioneers (8-2, 4-2) to a Marmonte League victory over the Highlanders (4-8, 2-6) at Rancho Simi Park.
BOYS’ TRACK
Taft 107, Chatsworth 18--Larry Jones, Lawrence Jones, Sedric Hurns and Alex Scheer won the 440-yard relay in 44.4 seconds for the Toreadors (4-0, 4-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Taft.
Brandon Stewart leaped 21-11 in the long jump for Taft.
Monroe 78, Van Nuys 53--Defending City Section cross-country champion Ali Benmohamed won the mile in four minutes 50 seconds for the Vikings in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Van Nuys.
Reseda 71, Canoga Park 56--Vince Rodriguez won the shotput with a throw of 51 feet for Canoga Park in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at Reseda.
Cleveland 73, Kennedy 54--Deywine Adams won two events and ran on two victorious relay teams for host Cleveland (2-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet. Adams ran 100 meters in 10.9 seconds, clocked 21.9 in the 200, ran the third leg for a 440-yard relay team that finished in 44.5 and led off the mile relay that was timed in 3:42.8.
Verdugo Hills 66, Hollywood 61--Jeremy Cunningham set a school record for the Dons (3-1, 3-1) with a mark of 14-1 in the pole vault in a Northern Conference meet at Hollywood (3-1-1).
Cunningham’s vault eclipsed Justin Van Fleet’s 1992 mark by one inch. Cunningham also won the triple jump by one inch with a leap of 40-2 1/2, and he took second in the long jump at 19-3 1/2.
San Fernando 64, Granada Hills 59--Jeremy Jackson leaped 6-4 in the high jump for the Tigers (1-3, 1-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at San Fernando.
GIRLS’ TRACK
Taft 100, Chatsworth 24--Tiffany Smith timed 12.4 seconds in the 100 meters for the Toreadors (4-0, 4-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference meet at Taft.
Smith teamed with Jayda Bailey, Eboni Greyson and Frances Santin to run 49.4 in the 440-yard relay.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Kennedy d. Cleveland, 15-1, 15-12, 15-3--Jeff Toon had 13 kills and Andrew Choy had 20 assists and five aces for the Golden Cougars (5-3, 2-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Kennedy.
Harvard Westlake d. Notre Dame, 16-14, 15-11, 15-10--Trevor Julian had 27 kills for the Wolverines (6-2, 4-1) in a Mission League match at Harvard-Westlake.
The Wolverines, the fourth-ranked team in Southern Section Division IV, were playing without starters Jimmy Strictland (strep throat) and Jon Katz (broken nose).
Brandon Melchior had 16 blocks for Notre Dame (1-6, 1-4).
