Big Winners
CalArts and the Herb Alpert Foundation wrapped up the week on a festive note, announcing Friday the winners of the CalArts/Alpert Award in the Arts: choreographer Victoria Marks, filmmaker Craig Baldwin, composer Chen Yi, performance artist Lisa Kron and artist Kerry James Marshall. . . . Each winner will receive $50,000.
Winner and Loser
The week’s big loser: The Los Angeles City Council dropped its seven-year battle against an oil pipeline that will cross the Valley. The big winner: Pacific Pipeline. Its pipeline will carry 130,000 gallons of crude a day.
