College Debaters Take 3rd in U.S. Contest

Debating and reciting their way past 70 other teams, Moorpark College debaters took third place in a national public-speaking competition in Minnesota.
The Phi Rho Pi National Championship, which ended April 11, pitted the Moorpark College forensics team against competitors in such categories as parliamentary debate, poetry interpretation and persuasive speaking.
Not only did the team perform well, all 14 members made it to the contest’s finals in at least one event. Five took first place in their events.
The team placed second at the recent statewide competition at Pasadena City College.
