No. 2 Eagles Win League Golf Title

Santa Margarita’s golf team, one day after setting a school record on its home course, went on the road and won the Sea View League title Thursday.
Senior Kelly Craig shot one-over-par 36 to help the Eagles beat host Corona del Mar, 192-195, at Newport Beach Country Club.
Nate Blauer and Jimmy Pittenger each shot 37 for Santa Margarita (17-1, 9-1), the second-ranked team in Orange County. Jeff Bemis shot 37 for the Sea Kings (14-5, 7-3).
The Eagles were coming off an impressive performance at the North Course at Coto de Caza Wednesday, when they shot three-under 177 in beating third-ranked Villa Park. Brad Meer tied the school nine-hole record by shooting three-under 33.
In the Century League:
Villa Park 198, El Modena 219--Adam Hambarian shot two-over par 38 for third-ranked Villa Park (15-2, 8-0) at Green River’s Orange Course.
In the Empire League:
Sunny Hills 196, Katella 217--Jeff Park shot two-over 38, including a hole in one, at Los Coyotes for Sunny Hills (15-3, 10-0).
In the Garden Grove League finals:
McLaughlin wins title--Jimmy McLaughlin of La Quinta shot 19-over 163 for two rounds at Green River to win the league title and advance to the Southern Section individual championship. Rancho Alamitos’ Evan Rothman, who shot 166, also advanced.
In Golden West League golf:
Servite 173, Westminster 246--Will Luciano shot three-under 32 and David Lauder shot 33 at Meadowlark for fourth-ranked Servite (12-4, 6-0).
In the Pacific Coast League:
University 193, Estancia 196--Brian Sinay was the medalist for top-ranked University (18-0, 10-0) and Jeff Perry was the medalist for Estancia (10-7, 6-4). Both shot one-under 35 at Rancho San Joaquin.
In the Sunset League:
Huntington Beach 386, Esperanza 391--Jason Katzen shot three-over 75 at SeaCliff to lead eighth-ranked Huntington Beach (12-3, 6-2).
Pete Hergert was the medalist, shooting par 72 for Esperanza (4-4 in league).
In Golden West League baseball:
Servite 12, Saddleback 2--Ryan Garko hit two home runs and drove in six runs for fifth-ranked Servite (19-3, 10-1).
In Garden Grove League boys’ track and field:
Garden Grove 87, Rancho Alamitos 39--Quadeer Norzai won the 800 (2 minutes 15 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (45.4 seconds) for Garden Grove (6-0 in league). Nam Nguyen won the 100 (11.3) and the 200 (23.8) to remain undefeated in both events in league for Rancho Alamitos (3-3, 3-3).
In the Freeway League:
Troy 74, Sonora 48--Kyion Grayes won the 100 yards with a time of 10.4 as Troy defeated Sonora to finish undefeated in dual meets. Grayes also won the 220 (22.7) and long jump (21-1).
In the Orange League:
Magnolia 73, Savanna 54--Sam Yai won the shot put (49-8) and the discus (151-6) for Magnolia (3-2).
In Garden Grove League girls’ track and field:
Rancho Alamitos 64, Garden Grove 63--Heather Wenz won the 110 hurdles (17.6) and the 300 hurdles (50.8) and Natasha Drayden won the 100 (13.1) and the 200 (27.8) to remain undefeated in the 100 for Rancho Alamitos (5-1, 5-1). Carrie Yoak won the shot put (31-11 1/2) and the discus (105-8) for Garden Grove (4-2 in league).
