San Luis Obispo Plays On by Edging UC Santa Barbara

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo stayed alive in the losers bracket of the Big West baseball tournament Friday with an 11-10 victory over UC Santa Barbara at Blair Field. The loss eliminated the Gauchos.

The Mustangs (37-20) outscored Santa Barbara, 8-6, in the fourth inning, then held off the Gauchos, who scored three in the top of the ninth. Neither team had scored in the first three innings.

All eight Cal Poly runs in the fourth were charged to Bryan Noyes (6-4), the former Brea Olinda pitcher, who took the loss. Ryan Brennan had a three-run homer for Cal Poly in the inning.

Cal Poly catcher Matt Priess, who also played at Brea Olinda, was three for four with two runs batted in.
