Fontana Police Probe Reports That Hospital Patient Was Stabbed in Eyes

Police are investigating reports that a sedated man sleeping in a Fontana hospital bed after ankle surgery was stabbed in the eyes by an assailant.

The Fontana Police Department did not identify the man, but Sgt. Alan Hostetter said Friday that detectives are investigating the alleged attack at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Fontana. No possible suspects have been identified.

“We don’t have any idea what the object was that he was stabbed with or how it happened,” Hostetter said. “We’re not aware of any enemies that he had.”

Hostetter said he did not know the extent of the victim’s injuries.

The hospital refused to respond to inquiries about the purported attack, other than to issue a statement “regarding alleged incident at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Fontana,” that read, in its entirety:

“Kaiser Permanente and local authorities are continuing to conduct an internal investigation. Because of the unusual circumstances of the allegations, additional security has been implemented at the Fontana Medical Center. We do not have any additional information available at this time.”
