Sorgi Wins at Mission Viejo Diving Event

MISSION VIEJO — Erica Sorgi, a freshman at Capistrano Valley High, won the women’s open one-meter diving competition with a score of 241.70 at the Mission Viejo Nadadores Memorial Day diving meet Saturday at the Mission Viejo Aquatics Center.
Sorgi, diving for the Nadadores, also won the Junior Olympic girls’ 14-15 platform with a score of 361.35, and teammate Jennifer McNally finished second with 289.15 points. Kristin Littell of the Nadadores won the Junior Olympic girls’ 13 and under with a score of 266.55.
Abel Sanchez of L’Equipe Irvine Divers won the men’s open one meter with a score of 415.30, and Mission Viejo’s Raymond Vincent won the Junior Olympic boys’ 14-15 platform with a score of 333.80.
Michael Hilde won the Junior Olympic 13 and under boys’ platform for Mission Viejo with a score of 280.35.
The competition, which features teams from Canada, Poland and the United States, continues today beginning at 9 a.m. Events include the one- and three-meter springboards. Synchronized diving begins at 4:30 p.m.
