GM Workers at Oklahoma City End Strike

United Auto Workers members at the General Motors Corp. plant in Oklahoma City voted to end their seven-week strike, though a final vote on the tentative accord was delayed for a few more days. UAW workers will return to work Tuesday. The decision to end the strike was approved by a 70% of the 1,450 workers who attended a union meeting Sunday, said Steve Featherston, president of UAW Local 1999 at the Oklahoma plant. The vote on the tentative agreement, hammered out in a marathon 62-hour bargaining session that ended Saturday, was delayed until the UAW could print a formal report to the plant’s workers, Featherston said. He said the union won’t release details of the pact until after workers are briefed and after they vote. Executives at Detroit-based GM couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
