Hyundai Gives City Seven New Cars

Hyundai Motor America on Wednesday donated seven new cars valued at $132,151 to the city for use by police, code enforcement officers, fire inspectors, administrators and other personnel.

The car maker’s national headquarters is in Fountain Valley and representatives said giving back to the community is a key part of the corporate philosophy.

“We realize how important it is for us to be good citizens in Fountain Valley,” said Mark H. Juhn, president of Hyundai Motor America. “We are a company that cares about the community.”

The South Korea-based firm gave the city Elantra and Sonata sedans and a Tiburon coupe. The company has donated about 25 cars to the city in the last few years.

Accepting the vehicles on behalf of the city at Hyundai’s headquarters on Talbert Avenue, Mayor John J. Collins said, “We thank you very, very much for your gracious hospitality.”

Cars typically are lent to the city for one year and then replaced with new vehicles, company representatives said. After being used by municipal personnel, Hyundai auctions the cars to dealers.
