COSTA MESA — Richard Penjoyan, the co-owner of the Newport Rib Co. and the adjacent Growers Ranch/Penjoyan’s Produce market in Costa Mesa, died Wednesday at age 55.
Penjoyan, a Huntington Beach resident, was a mainstay among the merchants and business owners along Newport Boulevard in Costa Mesa. He also served as co-chair of a citizen panel that worked with the city on renovations of the busy commercial corridor in recent years.
The Los Angeles native was diagnosed six months ago with leukemia, according to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his two children, Michael and Judy; and his mother, Gladys.
A memorial is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at Pacific View Memorial Park in Newport Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
