Taliban Driven Out of Northern City

Taliban fighters were driven out of Mazar-i-Sharif after a fierce battle just days after they had taken the northern city. The religious army seized the north after Uzbek soldiers revolted against northern warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum last week. But the Uzbek troops turned on their new allies when the Taliban demanded that they hand over their weapons. The Taliban seeks to enforce a strict version of Islam, barring women from working and requiring men to attend prayers.
