Boy Scouts to Paint Addresses on Curbs
Boy Scouts with paint cans will be working Saturdays beginning today to paint addresses on curbs throughout Camarillo as a community service by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post 2932.
The Explorer Unit was formed in the mid-1970s to help build character, promote good citizenship and develop personal and mental fitness through exposure to the world of law enforcement, sheriff’s Capt. David M. Tennessen said.
Members contribute their time to many community events, including the Christmas and Fiesta parades and Fourth of July fireworks display. They also get to ride along with patrol deputies.
The curb-painting project was undertaken as a way to assist law enforcement and emergency personnel find addresses while responding to an emergency, Tennessen said. The goal is to paint the address numbers on every curb in Camarillo that needs it, he said.
Explorers will be accompanied by a deputy, and all will have identification and a copy of the city of Camarillo Solicitation Permit.
