Bubb Wonders if Enberg Is Ready to Answer the Call

No doubt Dick Enberg’s anguish over the demise of the Cal State Northridge baseball program is genuine. Enberg, an NBC sportscaster, was a Matador assistant coach from 1962-64 and he credits the baseball he learned at Northridge as helping him launch his sportscasting career with the Angels.
But Enberg’s offer to help raise funds for the baseball program, made through The Times last week, rings a little hollow to Northridge Athletic Director Paul Bubb.
“I’ve put calls into [Enberg] three times since I’ve been at Northridge and he never returned one,” Bubb said.
However, Steven Soboroff, senior advisor to Mayor Richard Riordan, believes Enberg could aid Soboroff’s effort to build a stadium at Northridge.
“I’m sending him the plans,” Soboroff said. “Dick Enberg definitely could assist us.”
