Commuter Plane Makes Forced Landing

A commuter plane with 19 passengers aboard made a forced landing Tuesday at John Wayne Airport after experiencing a landing-gear malfunction shortly after takeoff, officials said.
No one was injured. The United Express plane, which had been bound for Fresno, landed without mishap about 8 a.m., according to airport and Orange County Fire Authority officials.
The pilot of the Sundance 250 reportedly turned the plane around over Anaheim after a cockpit indicator said the landing gear was locked in the down position, airport spokeswoman Pat Ware said.
The plane then circled above John Wayne Airport for about 15 minutes to burn off fuel and lower the craft’s landing weight, Ware said. About 20 emergency vehicles were on standby, according to Orange County Fire Authority spokesman Dennis Shell.
The delayed passengers were taken on a different flight.
