Olbermann to Leave ESPN at End of June

“SportsCenter” anchor Keith Olbermann will leave ESPN on June 29 to explore other opportunities, his agent, Jean Sage, and ESPN said Wednesday.
Sage said negotiations with ESPN had hit a snag, so ESPN agreed to let him out of his contract, which was to expire at the end of the year.
“Money was not the issue,” Sage said. “The problem was geography. Bristol [ESPN’s Connecticut headquarters] truly is a god-forsaken place for a single person. Keith wanted to live in New York.”
Sage said Olbermann was seeking a deal in which he would do the Sunday night “SportsCenter” in Bristol, and do radio and other assignments from New York.
John A. Walsh, ESPN executive editor, said such a deal would set a bad precedent and create scheduling problems.
