Azusa’s Fuentes Out of June 27 Irvine Bout

Marriott boxing promoter Roy Englebrecht announced Wednesday that the main event of his June 27 card between featherweight Marcos Licona of Westminster and Azusa’s Ricardo Fuentes is off because Fuentes has pulled out of the bout.

Fuentes (13-1), who is under a promotional contract to Englebrecht, has apparently decided he no longer wants to fight for his current management team.

“At this time, he’s got to sort things out,” Englebrecht said. “It was a good main event, one that I hope will eventually happen. Unfortunately, we’re at the whim of fighters, managers and trainers in this business.”

Fuentes, 20, won his first 13 fights before being knocked out by Pacoima’s Sergio Macias in the fourth round of the April show’s main event. Licona is 10-0.

Junior welterweight Mark Lewis of Mira Loma, who recently defeated highly ranked Carlos “Bolillo” Gonzalez, is expected to replace Fuentes and Licona in the main event. An opponent for Lewis has not been named.
