Proposed $35.3-Million Budget Targets Streets
- Share via
The City Council tonight will consider adopting a $35.3-million budget for fiscal 1997-98.
The proposal includes:
* $21.2 million for operating expenses, including salaries of city employees. Three new positions are proposed--a fire captain, a records management coordinator and a Police Department administrative aide.
* $14.1 million for capital improvements. Most of the money would be used to repave, repair and upgrade streets.
City Manager Jerry L. Bankston said the capital improvement budget would be the largest in more than a decade. Residents have complained for years about streets in disrepair.
City Council members said they are committed to fixing the streets and expect to approve the budget at the meeting at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 201 E. La Habra Blvd.
