Pacoima’s Yvonne Chan, speaking in Tennessee at Vice President Al Gore’s symposium on education and families, said education is often dominated by the three Bs. . . . The principal of the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center said one B was “busing.” The second: “Good idea, teacher, but you can’t do that.” The third? “Cover my butt,” she said, meaning that educators are often scared of innovation. President Clinton doubled over in laughter. “When you were talking about trying to cover that third B, I couldn’t help but think that’s the perfect project for the vice president,” he said.
