114 Unjustly Jailed for Terrorism Freed

The government released 114 prisoners imprisoned unjustly for terrorism by “faceless” courts during its ongoing war against leftist guerrillas. The decree marked the restart of a judicial review of the situation of hundreds of incarcerated Peruvians that the government suspended during the hostage crisis after Marxist rebels seized the Japanese ambassador’s residence in the capital, Lima, in December. The government had released about 100 prisoners up until October.
