School Board to Vote on 2-Year Contracts

Teachers, janitors, even playground supervisors may receive raises from the Simi Valley school district during the next two years.
District trustees are scheduled to vote Tuesday on contracts covering many of the district’s employees. The contracts grant 7% salary increases this summer and 6% increases in summer 1998.
If approved, the raises would cost the district $4.4 million during fiscal 1997-98 and $3.9 million the following year.
Board member Carla Kurachi said Friday she was pleased that the contracts lock salaries in place for the next two years and do not include provisions for renegotiating salaries during that time.
