1-Year Renewal Likely for Animal Shelter

The City Council has been urged by staff to extend its animal control contract with Orange County for at least one more year when issue comes up for approval Tuesday.

But that could change next year if costs increase.

“At this point, [renewal of the $95,000 contract] is the better business decision,” City Manager Robert C. Dunek said. “But we are going to monitor the situation based on what other cities are doing.”

With the proposed expansion of Theo Lacey jail in Orange, the animal shelter would be forced to move.
