Unwitting Witness
Dennis Dunlap says he was reading the newspaper and eating breakfast in his truck last year when he saw Sherri Dally being handcuffed and placed in the back seat of a car (B1). “They were two blond ladies,” he says. . . . Prosecutors allege that grocery clerk Diana Haun was disguised in a blond wig at the time. . . . Haun, who is accused of kidnapping and murdering Dally, faces the death penalty.
Teachers’ Helper
For those who have always wanted to become a teacher, Cal Lutheran University may have the answer (B4). CLU is beginning a two-year evening program for people with full-time jobs who want to earn a teaching certificate. . . . The switch won’t be cheap, however. At $325 per credit hour, students could pay more than $10,000 in tuition.
It’s Show Time!
Hundreds of carnival workers, such as these checking the roller coaster, were busy Tuesday getting everything ready for today’s kickoff of the Ventura County Fair (B1). . . . “This is always the most hectic time of any carnival,” says Steve Charleston, concessions manager. “But it always seems to come together.”
Wall Street Woes
Thousand Oaks’ largest employer had a rough day on Wall Street (D2). Shares of Amgen Inc. fell 12% Tuesday after it said its profit is being hurt by new federal health insurance rules. . . . “Amgen is still the bellwether biotech firm, but it won’t have the stellar growth that it used to,” says one stock analyst.
