As the Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to offer a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for last weekend’s triple murder in a quiet Mid-City neighborhood, the family of one of the victims made a public plea for financial help with funeral expenses.
“This is horrendous. We can’t even bury her properly,” said Wavelyn Shelton, aunt of Lakeisha Jackson, 19, who was slain Saturday evening in a duplex apartment along with her friends Charlene Flemons, 23, and Flemons’ sister Ruth Neal, 20.
Shelton, who lives in Palmdale, described Jackson as a “jolly, fun-loving kid who enjoyed life despite the hardships she had.”
She said she last saw Jackson on Thanksgiving. “She was so excited because she just got a job,” Shelton said. “I was so proud of her. The last thing she told me was, ‘I love you, auntie.’ ”
Anyone with information about the killings can call (213) 485-2511.
