After looking for a new opponent for weeks, the Cal State Northridge football team settled for a familiar one to complete its 1998 schedule.
The Matadors sealed a deal to play at Boise State in the opener on Sept. 5, giving Northridge its only Division I-A opponent next season.
Northridge routed the Broncos, 63-23, in the opener this season on Aug. 30 at Boise. The Broncos this week lost Coach Houston Nutt, who left after one season to take over the program at Arkansas.
The game at Boise State was the first of three consecutive road games this season for the Matadors against I-A teams.
This is Northridge schedule for 1998:
Sept. 5, at Boise State; Sept. 19, at Northern Arizona; Sept. 26, Eastern Washington; Oct. 3, Southern Utah; Oct. 10, Montana; Oct. 17, at Cal State Sacramento; Oct. 24, Montana State; Oct. 31, at Weber State; Nov. 7, Portland State; Nov. 14, at Southwest Missouri State; Nov. 21, at Idaho State.
Linebacker Marc Goodson, who in November concluded two record-setting seasons at Cal State Northridge, was selected to the Sports Network Division I-AA All-American third team.
Goodson set several Matador records, including most unassisted tackles in a season with 91 this year.
He was picked earlier this week for the Associated Press All-American third team.
SOCCER
Royal High boys’ soccer Coach Kevin Corley, who has led the Highlanders to two Southern Section Division I titles in three seasons, is one of eight finalists for the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America’s 1997 national Coach of the Year award.
VOLLEYBALL
Pepperdine outside hitter Nicole Sanderson was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches’ Assn. All-District 8 team.
Harvard-Westlake swing hitter Michelle Wong was selected the Mission League player of the year.
