The Seaside Volleyball Club, with Buena High’s Matt Prosser, won the boys’ 18-year-old division of the Junior National Championships Tuesday night in Denver, defeating Team Nike, 15-4, 15-8.
In the boys’ 16-year-old division, Billy Strickland of Harvard-Westlake helped lead L.A. Athletic to a 17-15, 15-4 victory over Balboa Bay Club for the championship.
BASEBALL
Pitcher Sean Douglass of Antelope Valley High signed Wednesday with the Baltimore Orioles. The 6-foot-6 right-hander received “a substantial six-figure” signing bonus, his father, Barry Douglass, said.
SOFTBALL
Mark Romano, former coach at Providence High, has been hired to guide Glendale College in its inaugural softball season.
GOLF
Donna Kogan of Sepulveda shot a 36-hole total of 163 to place second Wednesday in the 26th annual L.A. City Senior Women’s Golf Championships at Rancho Park Golf Course.
TENNIS
Top-seeded Gene Malin of Woodland Hills advanced to the round of 16 of the U.S. Tennis Assn.’s National men’s 45 Hardcourt Championships on Wednesday at Westlake Tennis and Swim Club. He will face Harvey Mardyks of Camarillo today. Also advancing were: Tom Wire of Westlake Village, Dave Austin of Camarillo and Rick Rozen of Woodland Hills.
