Guess Files Suit Against Union
Guess Inc. said it filed suit against the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees for violations of a 1995 agreement not to use harassment and other tactics against the company. The union had agreed not to sponsor any lawsuits or support leafleting, demonstrations or other campaigns against the brand-name jeans and clothing maker, Guess said. The Los Angeles-based company, without being more specific, said the union is violating that agreement by waging a “campaign of harassment” against it. Union officials weren’t available for comment. The suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, is seeking attorney fees and damages for breach of contract and fraud. Guess stock rose 63 cents to close at $9.13 on the New York Stock Exchange.
