Beach Litter
* We Southern Californians are blessed with many unique natural wonders that make our crowded, arid region envied by the world. Among these are beautiful beaches that can be used all year.
As a frequent visitor to many of L.A. County’s finest shores, I notice that we are squandering our blessing. The beaches and tidal waters are filthy, marred with the detritus left by negligent picnickers and others; most infuriating is that much of the litter has been tossed within striking distance of a garbage can.
Litter is one of the few environmental problems that not only affects everyone, but is fixable by everyone. If each one of us would dispose of the litter we step over (or refrain from dropping it in the first place), our world really would be a better place.
