Boy Dies of Hunger in Upscale Home

Jeffrey Mitchell, 2, starved to death in a virtually foodless apartment, and his parents are charged with murder and wanton endangerment, authorities said. Investigators say the family often went days without eating, yet the parents had money to keep an immaculate apartment with several luxuries. Billy Gene Mitchell, 45, and his wife, Susan R. Mitchell, 37, both unemployed, pleaded not guilty. Two siblings, ages 3 and 6, also suffer from malnutrition.
