Galvan’s Scoring Puts Canoga Park Over Edge, 14-13

Junior Galvan’s 13-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter lifted Canoga Park High past Grant, 14-13, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener Saturday afternoon at Grant.
Galvan, who rushed for 187 yards in 24 carries, scored the Hunters’ other touchdown on a two-yard run in the first quarter to give Canoga Park (2-2) a 7-0 lead.
Galvan’s biggest play was when he blocked an extra-point attempt by Jesus Perez with 1:12 remaining in the third quarter after a two-yard touchdown run by David Smith gave the Lancers (2-2) a 13-7 lead.
Canoga Park drove 65 yards in 11 plays to the winning touchdown. Phillip Myrmar’s extra-point kick gave Canoga Park the deciding point.
Grant had a chance to win in the final minute, but a 42-yard field-goal attempt by Perez sailed wide to the left.
David Smith led Grant with 78 yards in 15 carries. Robert Mitchell scored the Lancers’ first touchdown when he returned an interception 25 yards in the second quarter to tie the score, 7-7.
The teams combined for 150 yards in penalties.
