Southwest 20, Glendale 14--The usually high-powered Glendale offense was held to 131 yards in a Western State Conference interdivisional loss to the Cougars at Glendale High.
The Vaqueros (0-4), who entered the game averaging 398 yards, gained only 29 yards rushing against the conference’s third-ranked defense.
Glendale also hurt itself with three turnovers, including two passes by John Carnevali that were intercepted.
The Vaqueros, off to their worst start since 1987, still had a chance to pull out a victory until Carnevali’s pass to Ryan Brouche’t fell incomplete on fourth down at the Cougars’ 38 in the closing seconds.
Marques Hannie rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown in 16 carries for Southwest (2-2), which finished with 252 yards.
