Explosion Kills Mother, Son in South Lebanon

MARJAYOUN, Lebanon — An explosion in southern Lebanon on Sunday killed a mother and her 14-year-old son working in their tobacco field, Lebanese security officials said.
It was unclear if the pair accidentally triggered an old bomb or land mine, or if someone set off a roadside bomb nearby, said the officials, who requested anonymity.
The incident occurred about 10 miles south of Marjayoun, the main town in the 9-mile-deep “security zone” Israel maintains in southern Lebanon.
The Iranian-backed Hezbollah, or Party of God, often uses roadside bombs in its fight to dislodge the Israelis and their Lebanese militia allies from the area.
Israel and Hezbollah blamed each other for the blast.
