Judge Postpones Ruling in Bomb Plot Case

A Ventura County judge on Wednesday again postponed ruling on whether he can hear the trial of a Sherman Oaks man accused of plotting to blow up the Ventura County Courthouse.
Superior Court Judge Vincent J. O’Neill Jr. said the Superior Court judges are awaiting advice from an unidentified state agency on whether they would have a conflict of interest by continuing to hear the case of Frank Boyd Cockrell II. The hearing is to continue next Wednesday morning, he said.
Cockrell, 49, is being held without bail pending a Nov. 3 trial on charges of money laundering, securities fraud and grand theft. Cockrell’s bail was revoked two weeks ago after he allegedly tried to hire an undercover federal agent to help him with a campaign of murder, arson and robbery that would support his ultimate plan to bomb the courthouse.
