A marquee matchup. Santa Margarita was expected to be good--beginning the season ranked second in the county and staying there--but Fountain Valley has stormed into the top 10 with four impressive victories, including last week’s 34-23 win over Servite. Each team has a high-powered offense and solid defense. Santa Margarita Coach Jim Hartigan held quarterback Carson Palmer (stress fracture) out of last week’s 49-15 victory over El Modena, but said Palmer would start against the Barons. Last year, Santa Margarita beat Fountain Valley for the first time in three meetings, 31-0.
