Sanitary District to Collect Old Tires
They may be old tires today, but they could become new playground mats, carpet padding and rubber hoses tomorrow.
The Costa Mesa Sanitary District will collect old tires Oct. 18 at the City Corporation Yard for recycling into various products.
Tires, accepted free of charge, must be removed from the rims and there is a four-tire maximum per resident or vehicle. California Integrated Waste Management Board estimates that more than 29 million tires are removed from vehicles statewide every year. In 1996, according to the district, only 75% were recycled.
The recycling collection will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city yard, 2300 Placentia Ave.
