Simi Valley Tennis Victory Is Double-Barreled, 10-8

Simi Valley High used a strong showing in doubles play to avenge its only loss with a 10-8 defeat of Camarillo on Thursday in a Marmonte League girls’ tennis match at Camarillo.
The Pioneers (12-1, 7-1) won seven of nine doubles sets, with their No. 1 team of Rebecca Hunau and April Forrester winning by scores of 6-4, 6-3, 6-0.
Mindy Gondrez swept at No. 1 singles for Simi Valley.
The Scorpions (10-2, 7-1) are ranked sixth in the Southern Section Division I poll.
If the teams finish in a first-place tie, Simi Valley would win the league title having won 149 games to Camarillo’s 147 in the two matches.
Royal 16, Newbury Park 2--Kim Tran swept her singles sets by 6-0 scores for the Highlanders (5-7, 2-6) in a Marmonte League match at Rancho Simi Community Park.
Hart 12, Canyon 6--Jenny Munroe did not lose a game at No. 1 singles for the Indians (11-0, 6-0) in a Foothill League match at Hart.
Louisville 13, Bishop Montgomery 5--No. 1 singles player Katie Gallant won three sets for the Royals (7-4, 6-2) in a Mission League match at Louisville.
Harvard-Westlake 18, Alemany 0--Lindsey Forbess, Chelsea Heller and Tricia Hom each won two sets by 6-0 scores for the Wolverines (9-2, 7-0) in a Mission League match at Studio City Golf and Tennis Center.
Chaminade 12, Flintridge Sacred Heart 6--Teresa Galido won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, for the Eagles (7-2, 7-0) in a Mission League match at Flintridge Sacred Heart.
La Reina 15, Oak Park 3--Sisters Kristin and Lauren Dickey each swept their sets for the Regents (8-3, 5-0) in a Tri-Valley League match at La Reina.
Granada Hills 7, Cleveland 0--Kelley Takeshita won in singles, 8-0, for the Highlanders (7-0, 4-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Granada Hills.
Van Nuys 7, Monroe 0--No. 1 Leslie Musser and No. 2 Diana Friedland won their singles matches for the Wolves (7-1, 5-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Monroe.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Highland d. Antelope Valley, 15-0, 15-0, 15-8--Vickie Alcantar had seven kills for the Bulldogs (10-0, 4-0) in a Golden League match at Highland.
Royal d. Newbury Park 15-6, 15-5, 15-7--Courtney Guerra had 12 kills for the Highlanders (9-1, 7-1) in a Marmonte League match at Royal.
Poly d. North Hollywood, 15-13, 15-11, 12-15, 15-8--Gaby Gallardo had 15 kills for the Parrots (7-2, 4-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at North Hollywood (7-2, 4-2).
BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Thousand Oaks 19, Channel Islands 36; Thousand Oaks 16, Camarillo 39; Channel Islands 25, Camarillo 30--Danny Kilgore of Thousand Oaks outdueled Joel Salas of Channel Islands over the last 1 1/2 miles and the Lancers (6-0, 6-0) won a double-dual meet at College Park in Oxnard. Kilgore clocked 15:53, Salas 15:54.
Tri-Valley League Meet No. 2--Fritz Knoll of St. Bonaventure clocked 17:05 over the 3.1-mile course and Francisco Zavala of Fillmore was second in 17:13 but Oak Park placed five runners in the top 10 to capture the meet at Carpinteria with 39 points.
GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY
Thousand Oaks 18, Channel Islands 37; Thousand Oaks 23, Camarillo 32; Camarillo 18, Channel Islands 37--Kelley Hess of Thousand Oaks (6-0, 6-0) clocked 18:46 in a battle with Jeanene Gerry of Camarillo, who ran 18:50 over a three-mile course in a double-dual meet at College Park in Oxnard.
Newbury Park 25, Agoura 30--The Panthers (3-4, 2-3) took three of the top five places in the Marmonte League meet over a three-mile course at Peppertree Park in Newbury Park.
Laura Jakosky clocked 18:59 for Agoura, with Newbury Park’s Sarah Spilman second in 19:06.
Louisville 27, Notre Dame 28--Kim Utterson of Louisville (4-0, 4-0) won the race in 20:57 and helped the Royals (3-1, 3-1) come out on top even though the Knights took three of the top five places in a Mission League meet at Malibu Creek State Park.
Tri-Valley League Meet No. 2--Fillmore sophomore Jessica Huerta covered the 3.1-mile course at Carpinteria in 21:16 but St. Bonaventure placed four runners in the top 10 to win with 39 points.
