Two Northridge Golfers Named to All-Big Sky Team

Anthony Marciano and Ryan Fowlkes of Cal State Northridge have been named to the All-Big Sky Conference golf team.
Marciano, a sophomore from Royal High, tied for third in the conference tournament Oct. 12-14 in Pocatello, Idaho. His final-round score of 68 was the second-best of the tournament. He finished at three-over-par 219.
Fowlkes, a senior, placed ninth at 225.

Organizers of the EMC Golf Skills Challenge at the Ojai Valley Inn are looking for volunteers to help with security, scoring and operations at the Nov. 3 event.
John Daly, Peter Jacobsen, Billy Andrade, Jim Furyk, Brad Faxon and Jesper Parnevik of the PGA Tour and Chi Chi Rodriguez and Gary Player from the Senior PGA Tour will compete in a test of nine golf skills.

Craig Steinberg of Van Nuys, the Southern California amateur champion, shot 37-37--74 in the first round of the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at the Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas.
Tim Hogarth of Chatsworth, the 1996 U.S. Public Links champion, shot 33-42--75, Don Baker of Winnetka was at 37-38--75 and Michael Turner of Sherman Oaks finished at 41-38--79.
MEN’S TENNIS
Stanford sophomore Bob Bryan, a Rio Mesa High graduate, defeated George Bastl of USC, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, to win the All-American Championships in Austin, Texas.

Canyon High middle blocker-opposite hitter Patti Plahn has a hairline fracture in her left ankle and will miss the rest of the season.
