Breeders’ Cup Loses Influent to Leg Injury
- Share via
Influent, one of the favorites for the Breeders’ Cup Turf, will miss the $2-million race at Hollywood Park on Nov. 8 because of a training injury.
Trainer Howie Tesher said Influent tore a ligament in his right hind leg. The 6-year-old gelding is expected to recover and race again next year.
Influent, winner of five of seven starts this year, including a victory in the Man o’ War Stakes at Belmont Park in his last race, was expected to challenge Singspiel, the English horse who will be favored in the Turf.
The Turf has been hard hit by injuries, with two other contenders, Marlin and Rainbow Dancer, also having been withdrawn.
