4.9 Quake Leaves No Serious Damage

An earthquake shook pictures off walls in rural southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle, but no serious damage was reported. The quake, with a magnitude of 4.9, was centered near Brewton, just north of the Florida border, the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo., said. Emergency services in southern Alabama were flooded with calls from startled residents who seldom feel quakes.
