Westcorp’s 3rd-Quarter Earnings More Than Double

IRVINE — Financial services holding company Westcorp Inc. said net income more than doubled for the third quarter.
The company, whose principal subsidiaries are WFS Financial Inc. and Western Financial Bank, earned $8.9 million, or 34 cents a share, up from $3.5 million, or 13 cents a share, for the third quarter a year earlier, which included a one-time assessment of $12 million for the Savings Assn. Insurance Fund. For the first nine months this year, net income advanced 11% to $26.7 million, or $1.01 a share, from $24 million, or 92 cents a share, a year ago. Total assets were up 15% to $3.8 billion from $3.3 billion.
