Each team enters its season-opening game with something to prove. Despite their early, lofty ranking, the Griffins are young; Coach John Barnes and staff will have 10 underclassmen starting on offense and defense. “That’s a lot for us,” Barnes said. The senior experience is in two crucial spots--the offensive line and at quarterback, where Zack Blazek, a backup to Sean Stein last year, will start. Coach Kerry Krabb is making his debut at Cypress, and he’s not making any brash predictions. “I want to see positives come out of this game, win or lose,” he said. A big night by running back Kelly Patterson would be a good start.
